Apple Tablet and iPhone SDK 4.0: the slate fever builds up with e-readers announcements

islate-feverThe CES in Las Vegas saw the debut of three new e-reader devices, while Dell and Microsoft have demonstrated prototypes of tablet devices (slate PCs).

During his keynote at CES, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled a touchscreen tablet from HP running Windows 7, that was dubbed a “slate PC.” The touchscreen HP device that was shown was just one of many new products and services revealed by Ballmer. A YouTube video is available here.

Dell has briefly demoed a 5-inch device — which is reminiscent of larger Apple iPhone or iPod touch — also referring to it as a “slate.”

AT&T plans for 2010: Android and Palm OS devices, App Store for non-smartphones

palmOS-devicesAT&T plans to launch its first five Android-based handsets in the first half of 2010, two WebOS devices, and a new mobile application platform for non-smartphones.

The devices include a Motorola smartphone powered by MOTOBLUR, its social networking software; Dell’s first smartphone, the Mini 3 — an AT&T exclusive; and a new HTC handset also exclusive to AT&T.

Palm announced it will release two new WebOS-based handsets on the Verizon Wireless network on Jan. 25: the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus.

Google Nexus One: what Motorola Droid should have been

Google-Nexus-One-Demo-VideoJason Chen of Gizmodo tried the Google Nexus One thanks to an anonymous source. As a result, new photos and a hands-on video surfaced.

Chen said “You can call the design the antithesis of the Droid: smooth, curved, and light, instead of hard, square and pointy,” he said. “It feels long and silky and natural in your hand — even more so than the iPhone 3GS.”

Apple to unveil the “iSlate” Tablet on January 26 asked developers to get their iPhone Apps ready

iSlate Apple Tablet Demo Jan 26 2010Apple has scheduled a media event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on Tuesday Jan. 26, 2010, for a major product announcement. “Apple is preparing an announcement next month that many anticipate will be the official unveiling of its tablet, but the company has so far declined to confirm the existence of the device,” the Financial Times reported. “Wall Street analysts expect mass production of an Apple tablet to begin as early as February.”

The most likely name is “iSlate”, a trademark currently owned by a possible shell company set up by Apple to quietly obtain U.S. trademark protection for the name.

“Apple is preparing to show off a new, larger mobile device with a higher resolution display in January — probably a version of the Apple tablet we’ve been hearing about for months — according to a plugged-in source in the mobile industry,” Silicon Alley Insider reported Wednesday…

iPhone OS 3.0 Not Worth $10 for iPod Touch Users?

ipod-touch-iphone-os-3-adoption-ratioA new study by Chitika Research claims that “despite its hype, iPhone OS 3.0 had very little to offer iPod Touch users. Push notifications? MMS? Tethering? Essentially useless on a device that relies on WiFi for a connection. iPod Touch users are essentially asked to pay for copy/paste, in-app purchases, and the ability to buy a segment of the latest apps from the app store.”

The ad network’s sample data shows that 94.4% of iPhone users upgraded to OS 3.0, and only 55.24% of iPod Touch users upgraded.

“The #1 CEO on the list, Steve Jobs, delivered a whopping 3,188% industry-adjusted return (34% compounded annually) after he rejoined Apple as CEO in 1997, when the company was in dire shape,” the report said. “From that time until the end of September 2009, Apple’s market value increased by $150 billion.”

How to make 1 million dollars with an iPhone App

RedLaser became one of the best-selling applications on the iPhone by the end of September. According to MobileCrunch, the software has earned over $1 million in revenue from more than 750,000 downloads. It has been consistently in the top 5 paid applications of the App Store for the last three months.
