Press Release: Popular Prayer App Update Adds New Features and iPad Support

The Ministry of Divine Office, a non-profit group that offers the “Liturgy of the Hours” collection of Roman Catholic prayers online and via the iPhone and iPod Touch, in partnership with Surgeworks, Inc. has released the latest version of its “Prayer” app with two new features and iPad compatibility.

Prayer is available on the App Store.

The “Prayer” app is the most complete prayer database available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The native application works without an Internet connection providing users with access to 1,000+ prayers in English. It also contains over 100 prayers in Italian and the most popular prayers in Latin, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. The newest version of the app also features “favorites” and “search” functionality.

“The Prayer app makes it extremely easy for people to pray anywhere, anytime they choose, including their most private and personal moments. The large database and ability to search and bookmark favorite prayers, transforms the prayer experience,” says Dane Falkner, f ounder of the Divine Office Ministry.

The “Prayer” app includes all 24 Official Common Prayers as listed in the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (including the Angelus, the Regina Caeli and the Memorare), Holy Rosary Mysteries with scriptures for meditation (public domain Bible translations used where available), Litanies, Novenas, Via Crucis, Catholic Doctrine (as listed in the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church), Daily Prayers (including morning offering and prayer before meals), Prayers to the Saints and Angels, Blessings, Chaplets, and Marian Prayers.

The “Prayer” app offers a user-friendly screen with a low-light, white-text-on-black background option. The Rosary prayer features navigation buttons and “click” sounds for praying along with the text. Translations may be viewed in all languages that are available for a specific prayer. The “Prayer” app is very affordable and is available for download from the iTunes App Store. Other apps offered by the Ministry include:

• Morning Prayer (Lauds) – audio Liturgy of the Hours
• Evening Prayer (Vespers) – audio Liturgy of the Hours
• Night Prayer (Compline) – audio Liturgy of the Hours
• Liturgy of the Hours – audio and text Liturgy of the Hours

The “Prayer” app is listed the top 25 rankings for the Reference category of the iTune App Store in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Italy and Spain. The app has been in use for more than one year and registered 13,000 downloads with almost 7,000 updates in the first quarter of 2010. The “Prayer” app was developed by Surgeworks, a Salt-Lake City based application developer and graphical interaction design firm.
