App Store: 2 billion Native iPhone Apps downloaded

On Monday, the App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch served more than 2 billion downloads of software, with a half-billion in the last quarter. There are more than 85,000 applications available to more than 50 million iPhone and iPod touch customers.

As the total number of iPhone and iPod touch users continues to grow, the rate at which applications are downloaded continues to accelerate.

Emulators on iPhone, C64 coming to the App Store

A Commodore 64 emulator that was previously rejected has been approved after the developer made changes to align it with Apple’s SDK. Then rejected again. Manomio’s $4.99 C64 title was rejected in June despite having lined up all the proper licensing rights.

App Store: average user buys 2 apps every month

iphone-app-storeThe latest Mobile Metrics Report from AdMob for July 2009 shows that iPhone users download an average of 10.2 applications from the App Store per month, with 2.6 of those paid. However, iPod touch users appear to be more app-hungry, downloading an average of 18.4 each month, with two paid.

Rumors about a new iPod Touch to be introduced in a special event in September have been around for a while. The new device should feature a camera, probably a smaller one like the iPhone 3G.

Since the main focus of the iPod Touch marketing are games, the device will probably also feature a faster CPU and possibly the new graphics chip that also powers the iPhone 3G S.
